MakingOf the Bad Guys of Despicable Me
Directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud talk about how this world of super-villains was enhanced by the creativity and voices of Steve Carell and Jason Segel, among others.
To take fans behind-the-scenes of “Despicable Me” – which hits theaters this Friday – the MakingOf team produced a featurette that includes interviews with the voice-over actors and the directors who brought the villains to life in this new 3D animated film.
The battle of the bad guys (aka the super villains) is a feud that’s ongoing throughout the film. One of the super villains is named Gru and is voiced by Steve Carell. This character is armed with an arsenal of shrink rays and is planning to shrink and steal the moon. Gru’s main nemesis is Vector, a character voiced by Jason Segel, who spends his time trying to one-up Gru to become the reigning super-villain.
In this video, Carell and Segel provide insight into the feud between the two super-villains. Carell jokingly states that he’s “probably meaner than most people that you would meet, and finally I’m getting a chance to embody that.” Segel, who jumped at his first chance to play an “evil” role, explains, “Because you can’t see my face, it helps people believe that I can be evil.” It seems that they had a “despicably good time” in making this movie.
Check out the featurette and visit MakingOf later this week to watch our exclusive interview with the writers behind “Despicable Me”.
