Since the new Batman movies completely redeemed what had become a pretty campy franchise, we’ve been hearing about new reboots for super-hero flicks all over the place.  Spiderman’s doing it (sadly without Wes Anderson on board), The Hulk did it (about a week after the first one came out), and (I know this isn’t a reboot, but I want to bring it up because it’s awesome) Michel Gondry is directing Seth Rogan in The Green Hornet.

So, when they decided to reboot Superman, which “will definitely not be a follow-up to Superman Returns,” they got good ol’ Christopher Nolan to come over and help (not write or direct) breathe some new life into perhaps the most iconic superhero of all time.

I’m excited by this news, but do you guys think Superman has the same potential as Batman to be re-imagined and re-packaged?

While Nolan hasn’t commited to directing, he did have a thing or two to say about the next installment of Batman: 

“My brother Jonathan is working on the screenplay. We came up with a story that we are very exited about. We particularly like where we are taking the characters and what the ending is. There are things for me to be very exited about in addressing the characters again, but ultimately it always comes down to the script, and can we make a great film from this? Thats something I will firmly be turning my attention to figuring out fairly soon. [This film will be] the ending of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story” 

On recasting the Joker for the sequel,

“No” says Nolan, emphatically and unhesitatingly. “I just don’t feel comfortable talking about it” 

Lastly, on what villain WON’T be making an appearance,

“It won’t be Mr Freeze.”
